What is a Seder Dinner?
Passover is a traditional Jewish holiday that is a celebration of God's deliverance of his people (the Israelites) from slavery in Egypt. Since Jesus and his followers were Jewish, they celebrated Passover together.
Jesus chose this Seder dinner as the last supper he would have with his disciples, in order to reveal to us how he himself was fulfilling the Passover by becoming the Passover lamb, and sacrificing himself to free us all from slavery to sin and death.
Why are we celebrating?
Jesus was Jewish and he observed the Jewish laws and customs. What we call the "last supper" was actually the Passover Seder ritual which Jesus observed with his disciples before his crucifixion and resurrection. We are celebrating the Seder Dinner to gain a deeper understanding of Jesus and the meaning of his life, death, and resurrection.
